Men's Basketball Topped by Hillsborough in Florida College Shootout
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – On Day 2 of the Florida College Shootout at Daytona State College, the Hillsborough Hawks got past Santa Fe College men's basketball by an 80-70 score.
The win was Hillsborough's seventh straight, and second this season over the Saints.
HOW IT HAPPENED
HCC led by just two, 17-15, after a basket in the paint from Nasir Mann at the 11:15 mark of the opening half.
The Hawks would separate from the Saints, however, on the strength of a 14-4 run to open up a 31-19 lead.
SF would never draw closer than eight points for the remainder of the first half, and trailed the Hawks 44-34 at the break.
Jalen Speer had 12 points and Mann had eight for the Saints' cause after 20 minutes of play.
Speer started off the second half with a tough triple that found its mark, but the Saints couldn't string together any runs and keep the Hillsborough offense from clicking.
A Hillsborough three-pointer with 11:28 to play opened up the game's largest gap, 61-43, and although the Saints were able to trim it down to seven in the final seconds, the hole was too much to dig out of for SF in the defeat.
