Three Saints Earn Division 1 Softball All-FCSAA Awards
Gainesville, FL
The Saints season will continue in Clearwater this week at the Division I FCSAA Softball Championships, and the FCSAA announced today that three Saints have made the Florida College System Activity Associate (FCSAA) softball teams. Each sport in the FCSAA honors their best performers at the conclusion of the conference season and the beginning of the FCSAA tournament. For Division I FCSAA Softball, the Saints had three players selected. Outfielders Karris Rhine and Madison Conway were selected for the first team and designated player McKenzie Jewell was selected for the second team. The Saints finished the Citrus Conference season well knocking off multiple top twenty teams in the nation and the leadership of these three heavy hitters didn't know go unnoticed by the FCSAA.
Madison Conway and McKenzie Jewell have battled all year long for the top spot in the FCSAA for homeruns. Currently, Conway leads the state with 18 homers and Jewell has 17 on the year. The two power hitters for the Saints also have multiple RBI's. In fact, Conway leads the state in RBI's at 69 and not to be left out Karris Rhine has 56 RBI's on the year which is good enough for fourth in the state. Rhine is batting .392 on the year as well. The trio lead the Saints in the hits column as each has over 50 hits on the year. Conway has as many doubles as she does homers so she knows how to get around the bases when the ball doesn't clear the fence. Rhine gets out the box well too and has 19 doubles on the year to show for it. Each of the three hitters carries a solid slugging percentage with Rhine leading the way at .756, followed by Conway at .741 and Jewell at .672. Rhine has proven to have a keen eye as she has also walked 30 times on the year.
This trio of Saints will look to carry Santa Fe to victory in their opening round game of the Division I FCSAA Softball Championships on Wednesday, May 7th at 7:00 PM. The Saints will play a familiar foe in Seminole State College. The Saints closed the Citrus Conference season with a make up game victory over the Raiders in Gainesville as Conway hit a walk off grand slam in extra innings. The Saints depth and versatility will be on showcase as multiple players will be in positions to showcase their talents at the Eddie C. Moore Complex.
