Alton Darling

Bio

Affectionately known as “Coach” by the countless number of young people he has mentored in the Gainesville area for the last 15 years, Alton will officially join the Santa Fe College Athletics Program in the Spring of 2024 to serve as a Mental Health Counseling Specialist and Liaison. For the past 5 years, he has worked as an Adjunct Professor in the Student Development & Leadership Department at Santa Fe College and was recently appointed to Interim Assistant Professor for the 2023-2024 school year. In addition to his teaching duties at SF, he is a contracted partner with Restoring Hope Counseling Center as a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern in Florida.

A born native of the area, Alton was a local standout at Gainesville High School as a member of back-to-back state championship teams in basketball and a two-time all-state receiver in football. After a brief stint on the Division-1 level, he went on to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Interdisciplinary Social Science from the University of South Florida in 2007, and his Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University in 2015. Currently, he is on track to graduate in the Spring of 2024 with an Education Specialist degree (Ed.S.) in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Florida.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, writing articles on personal development, and participating in charitable events within the local community. What he loves most about working with young people at SF is passing along the hard-earned wisdom he has acquired over the years in life and in his own educational pursuits, particularly with student-athletes in mind.
