Baseball Has Big Innings with the Bats in 10-1 Win over Daytona State
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Santa Fe baseball went untroubled at home against Daytona State College, winning their fifth straight game with a run-rule, 10-1 victory over the Falcons in Mid-Florida Conference play.
Nine of the Saints ten runs came in two big innings, as the Saints moved to 2-0 in conference play with the comfortable win on the home diamond.
Santa Fe plated five runs in the second inning, which included three hits, three hit batsmen, a walk, and a sacrifice fly.
Daytona State's one run came in the tof half of the fourth, but the Saints responded with four more in the bottom half of the frame to grab a 9-1 lead.
The inning was highlighted by a leadoff double from Jevin Relaford and a two-RBI triple from Nick Herndon.
Santa Fe's final tally came in the sixth, after a sacrifice fly from Luke Marquis scored Luis Rodriguez.
Key Statistics
Robb Adams claimed his fourth win on the mound, throwing six innings. He allowed seven hits and just one run, maneuvering out of jams primarily on the strength of the strikeout. No. 21 tied a career-high by setting down nine batters, including three in his final inning of work.
Eduardo Yepes kept Daytona State off the scoreboard in the seventh with one walk and two strikeouts.
Eight different players had RBI for Santa Fe. Four players in the lineup had multi-hit days, combining for all nine of SF's hits. Rodriguez was 3-of-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, Luke Marquis and Herndon each contributed two hits and two RBI in their three at-bats, with Herndon smacking both a double and triple.
