Saints Lose Steam In First Conference Game
Saints disappointed as they lose to the Pioneers
Fort Pierce, FL- Saints women basketball fell in a dissapointing loss in their first conference game on Saturday against Indian River State College 81-62, after a second half surge from the Pioneers.
The Saints entered the contest at 4-1 and were led by #3 Khaleah Douglas with 14 points, which included two triples while #11 Leyah Houston tallied 13 points and Shakiria Chaney contributed another 11 points. The Saints quickly established control in the first quarter jumping out to a 12-4 lead. They soon lost their rythym and went into a long drought as the Pioneers went on a 16-0 run to end the quarter.
In the second quarter the Saints came out swinging. #34 Samari Wilson scored the first 5 points of the quarter, one of wich was a triple putting the Saints right back in striking distance of taking the lead (20-19). Shakiria Chaney also helped to carry the Saints by scoring 6 points while Leah Houston helped to control the boards with her strong rebounding presence inside. #11 Brialle Wasington came on strong for the Pioneers by scoring 9 points in the period, two of which were triples, but it was not enough to make the Saints go away.
In the second half, the Pioneers wer determined to put the Saints away early as the extended the lead. Brialle Washington continued to lead the charge for the Pioneers as she outdid her first half scoring prowess by scoring 15 of her 29 points for the game. Up until the fourth qaurter, the Saints remained in striking distance of a win. At about the halway mark in the fourth quarter, the turnovers began to mount up along with another scoring drought allowed the Pioneers to go on an 12-2 scoring run. From here, the Saints couldn't recover as the Pioneers held on to win for 81-62 victory.

"All credit to Inian River today, we were never able to get into a consistent rhytym offensively or defensively. Fortunately, its the first conference game and we have a quick turnaround so there's no time to hang our heads, only time to prepare for our next opponent."
