Saints Upset the Bucs At Home
Gainesville, FL- On Tuesday night, the Saints faced a tough conference opponent in Florida Southwestern State College. FSW is comes in with a 6-1 conference record while the Saints enter into the matchup hungry for their second conference win. Though the Bucs proved to be dominant in the first half of the game, the Saints outlasted them with a strong defensive effort and a 15 point run that stretched from the end of the third quarter into the fourth quarter.
How It Happened
The Bucs jumped out in front with 5-0 run. In the first quarter Leyah Houston led the way for the Saints with her versitlie offensive play. She scored 8 points in the period. The Saints trailed 13-16 by the end of the first quarter.
Lisa Le Roy led the way for the Bucs in the second period as she led the way for the Bucs scoring 7 points (10 points total) and hitting her second triple of the night. The Saints hit 7 out of 10 free throws helping them to keep the score close. They went into the half down by 4 points.
Again the Saints were out scored in the third quarter (11-13). Shakiria Chaney hit her only triple of the game to keep the Saints within striking distance. She had 10 points. In the fourth quarter, it was Leyah Houston who stepped up big scoring another 10 points. She scored 21 points on the evening. Down by 7 points in the fourth, the Saints went on a long scoring run giving them a significant lead at 52-46 with time running out. The Bucs charged back and tied the game up at 52-52. A strong defensive effort by the Saints led to the Bucs receiving a shot clock violation. Joey Delancy was fouled after driving to the basket. She hit both free-throws. Leyah Houston helped to seal the victory as she scored a fast break layup. With this the Saints were able to upset the Bucs at home.
