Gainesville, FL – Sixteen players from the 2017 Mid-Florida Conference Champion Santa Febaseball team signed with NCAA schools or Major League Baseball

Gainesville, FL – For the second year in a row, Santa Fe Saints pitcher Troy Bacon heard his name called at the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, this time in the fourth round (110 overall) by the Atlanta Braves. In 2016, the Colorado Rockies drafted Bacon in the 37th round, but failed to sign him to a contract.

Gainesville, FL – The FCSAA Tournament opens up on May 5 in Lakeland at Joker Marchant Stadium, but for the first day of games, the Saints will be spectators due to a first round bye. The Mid-Florida Conference champions will watch Eastern Florida State College and Northwest Florida State College battle it out for the right to play the defending champs on Saturday, May 6. Every game of the tournament will be broadcast on the FCSAA YouTube channel.

Gabel improved his record to 7-1 and Bacon picked up his eighth save. The victory give SF a four game season sweep over Central Florida.

Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #8 Santa Fe Saints rallied for an extra inning win on Wednesday afternoon in their Mid-Florida Conference opener against Florida State College-Jacksonville, winning their fifth game in a row. Troy Bacon (4-0) was nearly flawless again in three innings of relief. He struck out seven allowing just one hit with no walks.

Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #8 Santa Fe Saints avenged a loss from earlier in the season Saturday afternoon in Georgia, defeating Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College 10-3 and 7-2. SF (15-6) dominated both phases of the game, outhitting the Fillies 23-11. Robert Girgis (1-0) earned the win in game one, pitching four strong innings, and Sean Gabel (1-0) was the winner in game two, throwing five innings of three hit ball. Troy Bacon had a save in each game, giving him two on the year.

Baseball had one of their biggest early signings ever with seven student-athletes signing early with four year schools. All seven played a big part in last year’s success that saw the team set a school record with 42 wins, a Mid-Florida Conference Championship, a State/Region 8 Championship, and a JUCO World Series appearance.
