Saints Hold Off Titans
Pazmino's hot start helps to lead the Saints to another home win on Thursday night.
Gainesville, FL- The Santa Fe Men's Basketball team (8-6) edge past Central Georgia Tehnical College (4-9).The Saints held the advantage for the majority of the game. Jonathan Renois led the scoring for the Saints with 16 points. Ashton Lovette added 14 points. Florian Tenebay and Emmanuel Jones both lead all scorers with 19 points each.
How It Happened:
Kevin Pazmino started out hot scoring 9 of the first 13 points for the Saints. Each of his baskets were triples. Ashton Lovette hit another triple along with a rebound and putback from Makye Boles forcing an early timeout for the Titans. The score at this point was 15-7.
After their timeout the Titans made a comeback by getting key stops and hitting a few triples of their own. During this period the Titans took the lead over the Saints. Tynan Becker helped to provide a spark off of the bench by hitting another 3 pointer and creating a turnover from a big defensive block. Johnathan Renois took a charge giving the Saints possession and momentum. Predrag Panisic hit another triple from downtown. Jonathan Renois also hit a triple from downtown as the first half came to a close.
The Titans turned up the defensive pressure at the start of the second half to slow down the Saints offense. Led by Florian Tenebay and Emmanuel Jones, the Titans were able to fight back to make it a closer game. This helped the Titans to outscore the Saints in the second half (39-34), but their deficit was too great to overcome. The Saints remained disciplined and poised as they were able to maintain a double digit lead. The final score was 80-69 (Saints).
Comments From Coach Mowry:
"Good win to finish out our non-coference schedule and give us some momentum heading into our 16 game conference schedule. The Titans are a tough team to prepare for, as they do a great job changing defenses and offensively are difficult to guard. We got off to a really good start with Kevin hitting 3 triples and the bench players kept it going when they came into the game. The Titans got after us starting in the second half, but we were able to hold them off the final ten minutes for the win."
